My Brother That’s a Survivor from Prostate cancer

“My mission in life is to pay it forward and give back. Others have given so much to me. I’m a survivor. Cancer not going to define who I am, but it’s a part of who I am.”-Ambrose. Onwuka

Prostate cancer survivor Ambrose Onwuka 58, wants to share his story with anyone who wants to hear it. “My mission in life is to pay it forward and give back,” said Ambrose. “Others have given so much to me. I’m a survivor. Cancer is not going to define who I am, but it’s a part of who I am. It can be scary when you get those 3 words from your doctor, ‘You have cancer.’”

Ambrose first heard those words in August 2006. He’d had a prostate cancer screening during a routine doctor’s office visit that included a digital rectal exam and a PSA blood test. The results were suspicious, so the doctor sent Ambrose to a urologist, who did more tests, including a prostate biopsy, CT scan, and ultrasound. The tests confirmed that Ambrose had prostate cancer.

My sister Leticia Okoro was diagnosed with breast cancer a little over three years ago. When we got the news we didn’t want to believe it, naturally, we questioned the Drs in Nigeria, second opinions etc. We finally had to accept it, but more so Leticia had to. She is 52, a mother of four handsome sons and two beautiful daughters, a wife, a sister, a friend and so much more. My sister hasn’t always had an easy life. It seemed as she always got the shitty stick in life, but always got through and always stayed positive and kept smiling. My sister is a fighter and as a prayer warrior. When the pastor gives her hope and He says It’s gonna be ok, what can I do to fix it? She has been going through treatments, Prayer, and believe in God. Recently her scan came back even worse. The Drs in Nigeria Africa told us over time she would get worse. Much sister has GBM and is terminal and her breast cancer is inoperable. So she took the news better than us. There isn’t that much more they can do. The Pastor offered stronger fasting and prayer that may work and could possibly be the name of God. It was that or choose to live her life and make Mem and be happy and enjoy the time she has with the help of prayer and us. Leticia decided she no longer wants to spend her days in the hospital and missing out on so much. So we had the intake with pastor prayer. As her sister I support whatever makes her happy. I support that she wants to make a bucket list and make life long memories. The Drs give her about two years to live. Slowly things a see progressing. She has gained her hear, She an on her out of oxygen, recovering, and lose weight. my big sister slips away and on her bad days it’s even harder. But still she smiles. She says she’s not scared to die She a just scared of leaving us and she is believed in God, So we have been just enjoying the good days and trying to make her dreams come true. Trying to find ways to raise money has been hard. Most of these this money comes from relatives such as my brothers, sisters, uncles, and in-laws.

So I just wanted to share my sister’s story. She’s my hero. She’s so inspiring. We lost our father to prostate cancer, we lost our two sisters to a tragic accident, We lost our mum 8 years ago to a massive asthma attack unexpected and my stepmother during this COVID-19 lockdown in Nigeria. Life just seemed to go downhill after that. Though Leticia has been through so much she still has hope. She has actual hope that a miracle can happen and My sister was a true survivor of breast cancer. I know my sister can be an inspiration to many and I wish I could find a way to share her story in other ways or have her speak to others and educates. Thank you all for reading. Please keep her in our prayers. We did set up a booster page under Team Leticia.

Thank you all,
Reggie
